Viggo Eshton is an archbishop of Skyhammer and advisor to High Priest Jordan Steingard. He was personally responsible for the Massacre of Paladin's Retreat.
Early Life
A Skyhammer man through and through, for a long time Viggo has handled most of the funerals that occurred in the city. He was originally born in Skyhammer but spent many years in a small village in Aurora, serving as its head priest and representative of the Church. He returned to Skyhammer in his 40s, when he was called back to serve as the lead funeral overseer. He was the man who oversaw High Priest Marcus Steingard's funeral.
Recent Events
Sleeping Giants
Jordan Steingard first met Viggo when he sought the man who buried his grandfather. Viggo informed him that he did, in fact, oversee the burial of High Priest Marcus, and it went as well as they always do.[1]
After discovering some sort of phylactery in the mountains surrounding Skyhammer, Jordan brought the object to Viggo to study it. Viggo told him that he suspected it was a false phylactery, as it had no magical aura. He wished to study it further, however. The phylactery seemed to belong to one "Acilia Macrinus".[2]
Athanatos visited Viggo after finding her way to him via Yorke Tillman. She asked him about Marcus near his death, and if anything seemed off about it. He informed her that no, there did not seem to be any foul play involved. Athanatos thanked him and continued on her way, but not before secretly eyeing up the room and the apartment that he was staying in.[3]
Athanatos revisited Viggo and asked if he would be interested in a private Cirque deLirium show. He told her yes, that he was a huge fan of the cirque, and a private show would be very much to his liking. Pleased. Athanatos informed him that she would make it happen, and then went on her way.[4]
The night before the private Cirque performance, Athanatos visited Viggo once again asking about an object that he had taken that didn't belong to him. It took him a while, but then he remembered the mock phylactery that Jordan had given him several weeks ago. Athanatos scared him into giving it to her for safe keeping. He then thanked her profusely for saving his butt.[5]
Viggo was presented at the Massacre of Paladin's Retreat, in which he directly performed the rituals responsible for the massacre.[6]
Together with Priestess Elysande, Viggo discovered the scene of Eva Thomsen's murder. He was furious that such a thing would happen in this town, and threatened to burn the entire settlement to the ground. Elysande calmed him by pointing out that there were bigger fish to fry, not that the Sulta Ixen fleet had arrived in Kittiwake's Edge.[7]
Viggo sat on the original advisory board to the new High Priest of Skyhammer, Jordan Steingard.[8]
