Alfonse Beck is an archbishop of Skyhammer, and close personal friend to Jordan Steingard.
Early Life
Alfonse pledged himself to Skyhammer after they saved his life. His entire family was killed in an attack by devils, and the Church swooped in at just the last second to save him. An ex-farmer, he is strong but slow and somewhat dim-witted.
Recent Events
Sleeping Giants
When Jordan Steingard was promoted to Deacon, Alfonse was appointed to him as an underling. Jordan immediately sent Alfonse to the Sunless Citadel with several orders:[1]
- Investigate the Underdark entrances in preparation for establishing a Forward Operating Base.
- Attempt to consecrate the area where the Tree of Death once was and study the Blue Ore around it.
- Bring back a chip of the blue ore to Skyhammer.
A while later, Alfonse returned to Skyhammer with a mission update for Jordan. The other acolyte who was sent on the mission with Alfonse remained at the Sunless Citadel to continue watching the Underdark.
- The Underdark entrances have been mapped out to several hundred feet, but nothing of note was discovered.
- The area around the previous Tree of Death was not radiating any kind of evil, or magic for that matter. Nonetheless, Alfonse doused the entire area with holy water. Studying the blue ore did not yield any results.
- Alfonse returned with a fist-sized chunk of the blue ore that he was able to break apart from the rest of the walls.
Jordan instructed Alfonse to take some much-needed time off in Skyhammer while awaiting his next orders.[2]
While preparing to leave Skyhammer, Jordan informed Alfonse that he would be accompanying him on his way to Greenidge. The plan was for the two to travel to Greenidge together, and then Alfonse would bring the prisoners back to Skyhammer by himself.[3] Alfonse accompanied Jordan and Lyla Hellebore to Greenidge, where he had a pleasant conversation with Lyla in the local tavern.[4] Jordan then secured the two prisoners in Greenidge and sent them with Alfonse, who was instructed to keep a close eye on them. Closer than normal, as they were both quite dangerous.[5]
Alfonse took the prisoners back to Skyhammer, where a letter awaited him from Jordan. The letter informed him that he was to return to Greenidge to take over the Greenidge Investigation in search of fiendish activity. Upon arriving back at Greenidge, he received specific instructions on how to carry out the search. He then delivered a gift to Jordan from Skyhammer, for the good work he had been performing in the name of the Church.[6]
After Jordan's ascension to High Priest, Alfonse was one of the people that sat on his Council, alongside Lizzy Timbers and Viggo Eshton.[7]
